How to Read Bagua Map

Bagua literally means “eight areas” in Chinese and a bagua map is a tool used in Feng Shui to map a room or location. It is used to see how the different sections/areas/directions correspond to different aspects in one’s life such as: fame, relationships/marriage, children/creativity, helpful people/travel, career, inner knowledge, family/ancestors/health, and wealth/blessings.

In simple words, the Bagua is eight areas (known as gua) around a center and each of these areas are connected to different aspects of life. Each gua (or area) also its own meanings such as colors, elements and shapes.

NOTE: The South Sector of the Bagua map is always placed at the top of a layout. This means that the bottom of the Bagua, the North Sector of the Bagua map will fall over the front side of the home layout. Knowing this aspect one may need to adjust the Bagua grid to fit in to their layout.

They can expand the square either up or sideways in order to create a square over the home layout. Note that the grid squares should always be even and the same size.

One can activate the gua in different ways:

  • Add a living plant.
  • Add the color(s) related to the gua.
  • Add an object related to the element of the gua.
  • Adjust the placement of furniture or items around in that gua.
