Lord Shiva
Lord Shiva is the Supreme Lord who creates, protects and transforms the universe. Shiva is known as “The Destroyer” within the Trimurti, the Hindu trinity includes Brahma and Vishnu. Lord Shiva is shown in many aspects, in benevolent aspects, he is depicted as an omniscient Yogi who lives an ascetic life on Mount Kailash as well as a householder with his wife Parvati and his two children, Ganesha and Kartikeya. In his fierce aspects, he is often depicted slaying demons.
Mount Kailash in the Himalayas is the abode of Shiva, who resided there along with his consort goddess Parvati and their children, Ganesha and Kartikeya. In Hindu mythology, Mount Kailasha is conceived as resembling a Linga, representing the center of the universe. The mountain is located near Lake Manasarovar and Lake Rakshastal, close to the source of some of the longest Asian rivers: the Indus; Sutlej; Brahmaputra; and Karnali.
Which Side Lord Shiva Should Face?
Lord Shiva should always face in the North direction. Because it is the favorite direction of Lord Shiva and Mount Kailasha, his abode is in this direction. Placing picture of Lord Shiva in this direction gives auspicious results. North East is known as Ishan in Vastu Shastra and is considered as the ideal direction for a pooja room.
Make note that never place the picture of Lord Shiva near the end of the bed or under stairs. Also do not keep the Dancing Shiva or Natraja form of Lord Shiva in home. Always keep sitting Siva photo in home as this is the most calm form of Lord Shiva. You can also keep Shiva Parivar photo in your house.
Remember not to have more than one photos of Lord Shiva in home.
The devotee should worship Lord Shiva regularly every morning and evening. He/she must offer milk and rice every Monday to Lord Shiva. Another point to note is to worship Lord Ganesha before praying to Lord Shiva.
