Main Door Vastu Tips: Main Gate Color as per Vastu

Colour of the Main Gate

Always use soft colours for the front gate (main entrance) such as white, silver or wood colours. Do not use (avoid) black, red and dark blue colours.

The main door should be created of wooden material. Avoid materials such as granite, plastic or marble for the main gate.

One must place the footprints of goddess Lakshmi (wall-mount of goddess Lakshmi) on both sides of the main gate.

Direction of the Main Gate

Another important vastu point to keep in mind is the direction of the main gate.

In general, main door in the North or the East is auspicious. But, there may be a condition when you will be forced to have main gate in other direction. In such case, you can have main gate in the following directions:

  1. East: North-East part of the wall.
  2. West: North-West half of West wall.
  3. North: North-East part of North wall.
  4. South: South-East part of the wall.

NOTE: House having main door in South direction, they must have another door in North direction.

Make sure that total number of door and windows in a house are even (e.g. 2, 4, 6, 8 etc.) and not end with 0 (such as, 10, 20, 30 etc.)

The main door should be bigger than any other door in the house and should open in a clockwise manner.

Make the main door a bit higher than ground level and keep number of steps odd. Always have some beautiful design and paint on main door. In other words avoid keeping main door dull and drab.

Materials used for the main door

A wooden door is considered most auspicious for the main entrance. But the direction specific material is also suggested in Vastu:

  1. East: should be made of wood and adorned with limited metal accessories.
  2. West: should have metal work.
  3. North: should have more of silver colour.
  4. South: the door should have a combination of wood and metal.

Name Plate on the main door

Always put up a name plate. A metal name plate is recommended, if the door is in the north or west direction. Use a wooden name plate, if the door is in the south or east direction.

Vastu Tips for Main Door: What to Do

  1. Make the main door of a home the largest door. No other door can be larger than the main entrance.
  2. A two shuttered main door opening inside and clockwise is auspicious. Doors should always open at 90 degrees straight without any halt.
  3. Door made of wood for main entrance is the best.
  4. Have a threshold at main door or entrance; it will avoid loss of wealth.
  5. You can also have two main doors in a home, one for entry and another for exit having two and one shutters respectively. Make exit door smaller than entrance one.

Vastu Tips for Main Door: What to Avoid

  1. Avoid slanting, sliding or circular opening entrances.
  2. Avoid having main door facing directly to another home’s main entrance. Avoid main door directly facing a compound wall.
  3. Avoid underground tank, septic tank etc. under a home’s main door. 
  4. Don’t keep garbage or dustbin near main entrance.
  5. Don’t use automatic closing main doors.
  6. Don’t use black color for main door.

Don’t forget to decorate the entrance with green plants, if there is space and never place a mirror opposite the main door. Also, any picture of God should not be hanged at outer side of the door.
