Here are the four main directions:

  4. West

And these are 4 sub-directions:

  1. North-East

  3. South-East

The 4 sub-directions are most important as these are the ones where the bedroom, kitchen, living room, guest room etc. are placed in the house.

Primary and Secondary Directions in Vastu

  1. East: This direction is governed by lord Indra and is associated with wealth and pleasures of life.
  2. West: This direction is directed by Lord Varun and is associated with natural water and rain and other water sources, brings prosperity and pleasures of life.
  3. North: This direction is governed by Kuber and is associated with wealth.
  4. South: This direction is of Yama, the god of death. The directions is associated with the source of wealth, crops and pleasure.
  5. North East: This place is a supervised by lord Eeshaan, and is also a source of wealth, health and success. This directions plays an important part in human life as it relieves us from all miseries and mishaps.

How to Identify the House Facing Direction

  1. Stand at the entrance door of your home facing outside. Which is as if you’re going out of your house.
  2. Record the direction you are facing {face towards}, using a compass, while you are facing outside and that direction is the direction your house {house facing direction}.

For example, if you face North {while coming out of your home} then you have a North facing house; similarly if you face South then you have a South facing house.

How to Identify Sub-directions in Vastu

Once you determine the four primary directions; you can identify all the sub-directions:

  1. The place where the North and East sides meet is the North-East corner.
  2. The point at which the South and East sides meet is the South-East corner.
  3. The corner where South and West meet is the South-West corner and
  4. North-West corner is the one where West meets North.
